Thrown Into the World
We’re excited to invite you to Tings Lisbon on May 22, from 6–8 pm, for the opening of Thrown Into the World, a new exhibition by the acclaimed Danish artist Eli Benveniste.
Eli Benveniste has had a remarkable career. For nearly four decades, her work has been featured in leading galleries and institutions across Denmark and abroad. Her sculptures are held in major public collections—testament to her lasting impact.
That’s why it feels truly special to welcome Eli and her work into the intimate setting of our small hotel.
Thrown Into the World (2024–25) presents a new series of ceramic reliefs and sculptures. At first glance, the works seem untouched—except for the precise, decisive gesture of the hand that formed them.
Several of these ceramic pieces have been cast in silicone rubber especially for the show at Tings Art in Lisbon. Eli’s playful use of rubber—a material with a soft-yet-resilient, almost doll-like texture—reinvents the classical clay relief. The result is fresh, funky, and strikingly tactile. The level of detail captured in the rubber casts is simply stunning.
Rubber may not be considered a “noble” material, but in Eli’s hands, it feels entirely contemporary. There's a quiet irony here—progress pulling us both forward and back. From one of humanity’s first materials to one that may be among its last.
We absolutely LOVE Eli’s work and can’t wait to share this evening with you. Come celebrate with us and experience these remarkable pieces up close.
We look forward to seeing you!
